Trinity United Methodist Church has a long history of bringing the Gospel to the York community. The church was organized in 1824 as the Methodist Episcopal Church, Trinity by the Rev. William Gassaway, who was the first Circuit Rider for this area. The first church building was erected in 1826 on College Street, with a cemetery adjoining. The cemetery still remains on the site. The contracts to build the existing sanctuary were signed in September, 1890. In 1960, the educational building was erected and the multi-purpose Trinity Center was added in 1994. Trinity Sunday School was organized in March, 1829 and has the distinction of being one of the three oldest such organizations in South Carolina (the other two being in Columbia). During all of its history, Trinity (and its members) have been active in the York community and the church continues to be a thriving, exciting hub of ministry. Members participate in many outreach opportunities: PATH, Tender Heart Ministry, youth and children’s activities, local and international missions, and Prison Ministry, to name a few. There is a place for everyone here at Trinity. Members get involved in differing ministry efforts according to their gifts. We invite you to come and stay a while. You just might find the church home you have been looking for.
